Jeanne Brault Laurin

Canada’s first woman mechanic

She proved skill has no gender.

Her story

Jeanne Brault Laurin grew up in her family’s garage in Saint-Étienne-de-Beauharnois, Quebec. In 1943, the Association des marchands détaillants recognized her as Canada’s first woman mechanic.

Why she inspires us

Jeanne’s example reminds us that girls have always belonged in the garage—and that practical skill can change what a community believes is possible.
